The Justice Department has fired at least four prosecutors who handled FACE cases during the Biden administration, including longtime federal prosecutor Sanjay Patel of the Civil Rights Division’s criminal section.

The terminations came as the Trump administration’s weaponization working group released an 800-page report exposing how the Biden Justice Department weaponized the FACE Act to target peaceful pro-life Americans while largely ignoring violence against pregnancy resource centers and churches.

A Justice Department spokesperson confirmed the firings, stating: “The department has terminated the employment of personnel responsible for weaponizing the FACE Act who still remained at the department.”

President Donald Trump issued full pardons to 23 pro-life Americans convicted under the FACE Act early in his second term and directed the department to dismiss pending cases and halt future investigations against pro-life demonstrators. Many of those pardoned had faced lengthy prosecutions and prison time for nonviolent actions.

The report detailed stark disparities in how the Biden Justice Department pursued FACE Act cases.

Prosecutors sought an average of 26.8 months in prison for pro-life defendants compared with 12.3 months for those attacking pro-life facilities. Actual sentences averaged approximately 14 months for pro-lifers versus three months for pro-abortion defendants.

The report also highlighted instances of alleged misconduct, including withholding exculpatory evidence, attempts to screen jurors based on religious beliefs, and the use of aggressive early-morning FBI raids rather than allowing self-surrender.

A high-profile example cited was the case of Mark Houck, a Catholic father of seven. Roughly 16 armed FBI agents raided his home in front of his children despite Houck’s willingness to self-surrender. A jury acquitted him on all charges, after which he secured a seven-figure settlement against the federal government.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said the firings and the report mark the end of selective enforcement.

“This Department will not tolerate a two-tiered system of justice,” Blanche said. “No Department should conduct selective prosecution based on beliefs. The weaponization that happened under the Biden Administration will not happen again, as we restore integrity to our prosecutorial system.”

Assistant Attorney General Daniel Burrows added: “The behavior unearthed in this report is shameful. Lawyers who should have known better withheld evidence, worked to keep committed religious people off juries, and generally allowed the Department of Justice to be used as the enforcement arm of pro-abortion special interests.”
