On Tuesday, the Department of Justice released a bombshell report detailing the Biden administration’s weaponization of federal laws and government resources to target peaceful, pro-life activists, including tracking their movements and gathering KGB-like dossiers on pro-lifers, their spouses — even their children — from national abortion groups.

Operation Rescue is mentioned thirty-six times in the more than 800-page report, often put forward as some sort of radical anti-abortion group.

“We are undoubtedly anti-abortion,” says Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue, “but it is never radical to believe every human life deserves protection in the womb, or that Christians are called to speak up for those who have no voice – that is, babies in the womb, targeted by the same abortion lobby the Biden administration happily colluded with to trample on our First Amendment Rights.”

Besides gathering “evidence” from big-money abortion groups who were surveilling innocent pro-life citizens (even reporting their driver license numbers), the DOJ report points out other incredible abuses under the Biden administration:

DOJ prosecutors knowingly withheld evidence requested by the defense counsel of a peaceful pro-life activist while identical information was provided to the National Abortion Federation.
Biden’s DOJ requested an average sentence of 26.8 months for pro-life defendants, but only 12.3 months for pro-abortion defendants.
After reviving the National Task Force on Violence Against Reproductive Health Care Providers to weaponize FACE, the Task Force provided extensive support to abortion clinics, while vandalism and attacks against pregnancy resource centers went largely unanswered by Biden’s DOJ.
The Task Force Director was a reference on the National Abortion Federation’s  application for a large, private grant. The current DOJ report states, “We found no record of ethics approval for a DOJ attorney to take an interest in the financial outcome of a party having business before the Biden DOJ.”

Newman adds, “This is not the first time Operation Rescue and other pro-life organizations have been unfairly targeted by abortion radicals within the government. In 2024, my organization found out that a training presentation for the United States Army, offered 150 times over a seven year period, listed OR as a domestic terrorist group. We have received only the scarcest apology for such a damaging and gross misrepresentation of peaceful, pro-life activism, and are still pursuing legal actions.”

For those activists who were unfairly targeted and imprisoned under the Biden DOJ and its weaponization of the FACE Act, President Trump granted pardons shortly after taking office in January 2025. However, there is plenty more damage to be undone.

The DOJ report promises to right prior wrongs, assuring citizens that “future abortion-related FACE Act prosecutions and civil actions will be permitted only in extraordinary circumstances.”

It might do better to support repealing the FACE Act altogether, which was only ever established by the pro-abortion Clinton administration to stamp out the peaceful, powerful, pro-life witness of the rescue movement.

“Trump has more than just the incarcerated pro-life activists to make up for,” says Newman. “There has been a systemic imbalance of justice within the federal government for decades when it comes to pro-life activism. How else did our organization come to be listed on a slide for domestic terrorism offered by the United States Army for seven long years? I’m thankful for what Trump has done to expose this imbalance, but what will he do to truly bring it to rights?”

Despite endless Medicaid fraud and clear evidence of the illegal sale of fetal organs harvested during abortions, Planned Parenthood is still receiving taxpayer money. Abortionists like sexual predator Jacob Kalo, and Douglas Karpen, whose own workers testified that he ripped the heads off of babies born alive in late-term abortions still remain licensed, never seeing the inside of a jail. In fact, numerous states have enacted laws that protect abortionists from extradition to other states, even when they provide abortions illegally and injure women with dangerous abortion pills.

While pro-lifers have faced endless persecution from state and federal governments, lies and intimidation from big-money abortion groups, and even prison time – the abortion industry, as a whole, enjoys easy protection and government funding.

“If Trump really wants to right prior wrongs, then he needs to dismantle the long-standing protections and provisions of the abortion industry,” says Newman. “As long as abortion giants like Planned Parenthood receive millions in federal monies and officials in pro-abortion states go unchecked as they carve out laws that dismiss protections for the preborn in pro-life states, the imbalance will continue. This DOJ report is a great start, but pro-life Americans deserve more than a memo, Mr. President.”
